What an experience! We had a chance to have the best natural sweetfish at Mikadoya restaurant, tsuwano town, Shimane, Japan.
Mikadoya restaurant had been an auberge for walking travellers once upon a time, but now they are not running as a hotel but restaurant only along the most cleanest river named Takatsu river, which bring us the best natural sweetfish globally.
You can have various kinds of sweetfish, raw, baking, steaming, etc by sweetfish artizan cook here, we travel regularly once a year for these 10 years!
Tsuwano is the best city for morning walking while taking a look at Nishikigoi Carp here and there in the town, where they have an old castle, old local culture, green tea tasting, making Japanese paper, tasting two of the best Sake tasting in the center city of Tsuwano.
We recommend to go to Tsuwano from Hiroshima or Hagi by car, it takes 2 hours only. This is the-so-called off the beaten destination which you can enjoy the real old Japan, it is like a small Kyoto.
